Hi all. I have for some time now had this stick:
http://www.modnet.no/product_info.php?cPath=79_122&products_id=2252&language=en&osCsid=4df829f41ae73622f4716fb02957dd26

But im having a hard time getting used to it, and I find it hard to use when I play 3rd strike. Do you guys think a new stick would help? Or maybe modding the one I have? (I dont know much about modding)

any help is appreciated.

According to what I've been hearing (there will be more appropriate people to field your question), you have a pretty good stick there.  It's the traditional Japanese style layout and if you get used to that, you'll be good to go for head-to-head cabinets. And Hori makes good shit.

What do you find hard about it?  What are you used to using?

This is a decent stick to learn off of. While very few people prefer the stock parts, many mod the stick with actual Japanese arcade cab parts (Sanwa and Seimitsu). Doing so takes a little bit of case modding, something like drilling new holes for new screws, making the button holes slightly bigger to fit the new buttons, and soldering. If you do a little bit of searching around in the Tech Talk section of the SRK forums, you'll find what you need to know to do the mod.

I feel im having some trouble with the stick itself. Like I often miss the quarter circles and that it has alot of dead space, Hope that makes sense heh. I guess I just need to practice more, this is the only stick ive managed to find here in norway, so thought I would check if others could relate to the problems.

an example that happend just now.
I go into genei jin, I got my oponent airborn and im going to juggle him using f.mk. In my head im doing it just right, but as my target starts to fall down I see im doing a low medium kick. I just didnt feel the diffrence in the stick. Note I was holding the stick more to the side then down.

Hey,

I own the same stick and its "ok" (kinda starting to fall apart on me lol). If you open up the back casing and look at the joystick gate, it takes form of a square but the corners are rounded off quite a bit which might explain your dead space problem. The stick can be used, but you really have to adapt to it and be spot on with the fowards, downs, backs ect. The stick isn't as forgiving as other more well constructed sticks. Also, buttons are kind of a nuisance. After a while the hit confirm starts to wear and you got to really press the button so the input is recognized. The stick isn't great, but if you learn to use this stick with ease, then you can basicaly play on any other stick without trouble.

There are a lot of good sticks out there, but the real question is how much are you willing to spend? I'd say get a Hori Real Arcade Pro stick, but they're pretty rare to find. I guess you can buy a custom made stick which would cost around 120$US and up + shipping. Check out http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=131127 for custom stick makers. You should also check out http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=135694 which isn't in the custom stick maker sticky, but by far the best priced IMO and a super bad ass paint job.

Most of the guys at Denjin Video and FFA would recommend a Mas Systems stick.   5 Star, Rock, Amir, and I think Shogo and Vic have all endorsed the Mas Real Arcade Pro on the podcast.  I have one and it plays great.  Cost about $120.

It's all preference.

If you like Japanese style (ball top) sticks, go for Hori Real Arcade Pro or a custom with Sanwa/Seimitsu parts.

If you like American style (bat top) sticks, go for Mas sticks or a custom with Happ parts.

BTW, if you have the tools to do so, you can mod your Hori Fighting Stick 2 with Sanwa/Seimitsu parts. It just requires a bit of case modding.

http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=136372

There's the thread. It should be similar to modding an Hori Fighting Stick 2.
